A recent editorial article in the BMJ (29/07/10) considers the potential risks and benefits of Dabigatran for patients with AF. The authors conclude that although Dabigatran seems to be as effective as warfarin for stroke prevention, evidence on its long term efficacy and safety remains to be gathered.

New BCSH clinical guidelines for testing for heritable thrombophilia have now been published. They clearly state the conditions for which thrombophilia screening is recommended and discourage indiscriminate testing.
